RONALD SANDERS

My brother Ron Sanders was an Alumni of the Tennyson High School Class of '68 (he never graduated) but I was hoping to share some memories with someone who knew him well. He died shortly after I graduated from Tennyson. He is not in the '68 Senior Yearbook either, because he refused to shave his mustache.

He was a special brother and it was very much like him to stand up for his beliefs, though at the time I was far too naive to understand it all. We lived on Collette Street, about a mile north-east of Tennyson and my family attended the church next to the school parking lot and swimming pool. Ron was all about the rebelion of the 60's and ended up hiding from the FBI for draft evasion the rest of his short life. He, his girlfriend and her daughter all were drown at Bodego Bay by a Sleeper Wave. He was a surfer and a strong, experienced ocean swimmer, so I figure he must have been trying to save the others. I do remember some of his friends by first or nick names: Milton, Leon, Pedro, Bob Dalton and he had a girlfriend at THS named Joan who was in a Woody Allen play put on at the school one year. My memory is not that great, but I remember bits here and there.
I'm hoping to get in contact with anyone who remembers my older brother Ron Sanders (THS '68). I would just like to share and hear some stories about his life in high school. He was my only brother and I really miss him.

ALBERT ALLEN DUNHAM, JR.

","Born to Albert Allen Dunham, Sr. and Janice Louise Dunham on July 17, 1968. He returned to Heaven on February 27, 2006 at age 37. Albert grew up in Union City where he played in the Treeview Little League and graduated from Tennyson High School in 1986. Albert worked at Thyssen Krupp Elevator Company for many years and last worked at Raley's in Red Bluff, CA. He loved baseball and football and was a devoted fan of the Oakland A's and the Oakland Raiders. Albert was a loving father and will be missed greatly by his sons, Benjamin Allen Dunham, age 8 and Albert Maximilian Dunham, age 3. Albert was preceded in death by his mother, Janice in December. He is survived by his devoted father, Albert Dunham, Sr., sisters Doreen Dunham and Amanda and Sara Fish, niece Amber Watson and nephew Ryan Mostek. Albert came from a big and loving family and was especially close to cousins Luther and Alan Butler, Evelyn Stout and Aunt Aloma Butler. Even though they went their separate ways recently, Albert and Mona Dunham were together through almost 10 years of laughter, love, tears and life lessons. Mona and their two amazing sons will miss him greatly. Albert was fortunate to have a best friend from kindergarten who he remained close to all his life, David Mellin. Albert was outgoing, generous and loving. He touched many lives and was loved by many. Family and Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service March 4, 2006, 2 PM, at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont. Rick was my older brother and was born in Pennsylvania, June 25, 1943. Rick and I both worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, he started in 1961 and then got drafted like so many of us. He then served in the U.S. Army until 1967 at various locations, including Fort Eustis, Virginia, and Fort Devins, Massachusetts. On June 5, 1992, he died of an infection of the lining of the heart that unfortunately was diagnosed too late for treatment. He was survived by his wife and two daughters. I remember him as a wonderful husband, father and brother and still miss him. - His loving brother, George Pinarcik '66 -

Kurt Kuefner, class of 1967, died in his sleep March 4, 2003 at age 53. Born in Iowa, he lived in Hayward for 40 years. Kurt received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from California State University at Hayward and worked as a doorman for the Paramount Theatre in Oakland for 30 years. Survived by his sisters Lisa, Heidi, Carol, Kristi and brothers Bruce and Erik.

My fond memories of Kurt were of a kind and gentle man. We knew each other mostly from Cross Country and Track. Even though he was never a superstar runner, Kurt was great runner who worked hard and someone the team could always count on when he was needed for a team win. Danny worked for 30 years as a warehouseman for Lucky's warehouse and Albertson's. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, the Woodland Road Riders Chapter V, Union Local 490 and the Raiders Booster Club. WALTER S. 'CHEYENNE' SIROIS

Walter Sylvio Cheyenne Sirois, 52, of Chubbuck, Idaho, just outside Pocatello, passed away from injuries sustained in an accident, June 29, 2002.

He was known as Walter in high school, but changed his name to Cheyenne when he moved to Idaho. He was born November 29, 1949, to Albert Joe and Gladys (Przygoda) Sirois in Oakland, California. Cheyenne graduated from Tennyson High School, Class of 1967 and attended college for two years. He spent two years in the Army and served in the Vietnam War. Cheyenne married Fonda Jean Heath August 5, 1992. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a track maintenance foreman for the last eight years. Cheyenne was very involved in all aspects of the community. He served as captain for the Citizens on Parole in Chubbuck. He was the founder of Southeast Idaho Riders Association. Cheyenne enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, camping, fishing, the out-of-doors, and was just getting into black powder.

He is survived by his wife, Fonda Sirois, Chubbuck, Id; children, Mike Sirois, Roberts, Co., a step-son, John (Jodi) Walz, Pocatello, daughters, Johana Sirois, Kelley Pena of Tracy, Calif., Tricia Sirois Russell, Reno, Nev., Tonja Sirois, Stockton, Calif.; grandsons, Jaden Pena, Tracy, Calif., and Gibson Walz, Pocatello; sisters, Lucille Castillo, Antioch, Calif., and Helen Dowling, Tulsa, Okla.

Gary Sipos, Tennyson High School, Class of 1965, passed away May 18, 2003 at age 55. Many of you will remember him as a tetter-totter champion, musician, and librarian at Cal State, Hayward. His wife, friends and family were able to be with him in Washington, including his Mother, Maxine. Gary and I grew up on the same street, traded stamps together, were in Boy Scouts together, and I'm happy we were able to reconnect via classmates.com. Gary also reconnected me to John Theede, one of Gary's best friends as an adult, and one of my best buddies for laffs skateboarding and motorcycling around during high school. ", "Judy Andrade Burgess class of 62, passed away in October of 2000. She died of cancer. She had married Chuck Burgess, they later divorced. Judy was a dental assistant for Dr. Kimura in Union City. It was the job she got right out of Tennyson high school and never left. She left a sister, Jean, and her Mother behind. Judy maintained friendships with several graduates of Tennyson High, from various classes.

He will also be remembered for his love of laughter and practical jokes. Steven enjoyed traveling, R.V. and camping, trips to Reno and Las Vegas and sports, especially baseball. ", " LeRoy (Lee) Gilbert Toro was born in Aiea, Hawaii on November 11, 1944, and died June 9, 2004 in Richmond, Virginia, from a massive brain hemorrhage. He is survived by his children from his first marriage, Jay and Tina, and his children from his second marriage, Adam and Jamie. A triple athlete in high school, he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany and was a decorated Viet Nam veteran. Survived by his sister Lori, brothers Ed, Peter (THS66, deceased 10/27/05), and predeceased by his brother Gary (THS70, deceased 11/29/91).

REBECCA (BECKY) LYNNE CONRADSON

", "Becky was born September 27, 1954. She died on February 1, 1995 in a head on car accident just east of Oakdale, CA on Hwy 120. Her daughter Jenna Lynne was 27 months old at the time and survived the crash. Jenna was adopted by Becky’s sister Rhonda and her husband James Badgett. Becky is buried at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Becky was a Past Honored Queen in the International Order of Jobs Daughters, Bethel 21 in Hayward. She was also a flight attendant for United Airlines.

", "33 yrs old died Feb. 17, 1980 in Santa Cruz, Ca. Like his twin borther James Spann Class of 65 THS, Darryl was a Viet Nam Veteran. in the U S Army

So many Classmates are Gone But Not Forgotten. I think if you ever knew the Spann Twin's you would never forget them. Darryl and Jay Spann we unique and special people.They played jokes on teachers in school by switching classes. Much to the delight of those of us who knew about the switch which most often they got away with.Having known them since Kindergarten I know they were well known in the Hayward area not just the classmates at THS but around town. All the girls described them as 'Cute' and they sometimes played the tricks on the girls too. The twins were always fun to be around. It is with heavy heart I attempt share the memories of these two. Jay died in Viet Nam Nov.26, 1971. Daryl died Feb. 17,1980. Both of their lives were much to short. They will never be forgotten.

A friend of mine I knew in high school, Dan Rothberg, Tennyson High School, Class of 1972, passed away shortly after graduating. THS Classmate Debbie Nicosia told me that in 1972 Dan was driving in San Jose in the rain, for some reason his car skidded off the road and he was killed. She said there was an article back then with his picture in the Daily Review. I knew Dan in high school and was told he'd be going to Chabot College starting in Fall 1972. I never saw him there and neglected to call him. I felt funny about calling guys. I found out just last week that he had passed away February 14, 1980. He was a nice guy that had a huge crush on me. My boyfriends mom, at the time, knew Dan's mom and they were trying to get me to go out with him since the guy I was seeing was, in so many words, a loser. His own mother even told me that. I had thought I'd be talking to him at our 35-year next reunion for our class of 1972. I can't help but feel so terrible about this. It's too bad H.G. Wells Time Machine isn't a reality.

My brother Dan passed away on Valentines Day, February 14, 1980. His car went off a cliff in San Jose. He was paralyzed from the neck down. On the way to the operating room Dan had a heart attack and passed away. His death was the first in my family and it was very hard. He is buried in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetary in Hayward about 100 yards away from were he pitched one of his better games against Moreau Catholic High School, while a Senior at Tennyson High School.

He was one of the more popular people in high school because he was genuine in his friendship and true to his word. Just about everyone loved him. ", "Bob Milan was survived by his sister Mary Milan class of 1966 who currently lives in Oregon and his brother Richard Milan class of 1970 who lives in Castro Valley. His parents Tess and Herman Milan reside in Manteca Ca. I have many fond memories of my cousin Robert. Because our fathers are brothers, we shared the same last name. We always went to the same schools and many confused us as siblings. He very kind and generous always willing to 'share' with me anything he had. I'll always remember his greetings of a big smile and a hardy hell-o. For most of our childhood, we lived across the street from each other until in our pre-teens his family moved behind Frenchys and my family ended up moving to Fairway Parks. As a child, he liked to put together models of battleships and airplanes. It was sad that he was taken from us in May 1967 at the young age of 17. Robert will always be in our hearts.

July of 1972, He dove into the river and broke his neck, His son Lonnie Dane, at age 8 yeas old, pulled him to shore, He was paralyzed, they had to fly him to a hospital in Santa Clara, He was 31,of age. He was quadriplegic for about six year’s prior to passing away, on his Wedding Day, (He married his Care taker.) His son Lonnie Dane Shipley, also passed away. He was murdered in Redding at age 31.in July of 1999.

I remember spending most of our time together while we were attending Valle Vista Elementary School. Linda lived on Dixon St., around the corner from me, & we would play together.

I was so sorry to hear from another classmate & neighbor that she had been killed in a car crash. I believe they said the accident was on the Oakland/SF Bay Bridge. My sympathy goes out to her family.

My sister Joyce Zavala, class of 1976, was married to Dave Ching and was also survived by her son Justin, both of whom live in Morgan Hill CA. Joyce was the best sister that anyone could have - she was always there to lend a helping hand and such a good aunt to my three sons and daughter. She had colon cancer that unfortunately was diagnosed too late for treatment, because it was not suspected because of her young age. Dear Family of cousin Theresa, the first memory I have of Theresa is when she and her mom and sisters came to visit us in Theresa_and_newborn

Denver. She always had a happy smile, and we played together and I thought she had pretty clothes. The next memory I have of Theresa, is when I was in her wedding to Bob Carr. It was a big wedding, and looking back at the pictures, we were both so young. She moved away, and had Ricki and Robbie. She later moved back to Hayward, California and lived close to me and my husband Tony. It was during that time that she taught me how to make stuffed bellpeppers, that I still make to this day. She was fun to be around, and loved her children a lot. We were transferred to Washington State, as Tony worked for San Francisco Shipyard. She later married Vic Burkle, and came to visit us in Port Orchard, Washington. We showed them around Seattle, Tacoma and Bremerton. We had a great time with them. I never saw her again till I visited Denver, where Theresa and Vic lived. We moved to Denver in October of 2001, and Theresa and Vic had moved to Tennessee. I will miss my dear cousin, and it saddens me to know that her father, mother, and sisters are all gone as well. But they are together in Heaven I'm sure. She isn't suffering anymore, and we remain sad because she is no longer in our lives; but have comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord. Love from Cousin Loretta"] Text[155]=["

Don Frisch and I were married from 1969 to 1978. He was the loving father of Denise and Catherine, and had 1 grandaughter, Emily, before he died in 1989. He served in the US Navy from 1967 to 1977, graduating from Colorado University in 1974 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a commission as Ensign. I was married to Arrol for almost twenty years and had 6 children by him. We were not with him in the last ten years of his life but know that it was a painful death. We as THS Classmates of 1976 grew up in an era that made drugs and alcohol seem almost harmless. I am writing this to all of you as a reminder of how dangerous these substances truly are. ", "Judy Martin, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martin, Midlothian Way, Hayward was killed in a car accident on Redwood Road a week after graduating from Tennyson High School. Michael Murphy of Oakland and Judy had planned to wed that summer. They had attended the wedding and reception of two friends in Walnut Creek earlier in the day and were returning from a subsequent evening out. Burial was at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery on Mission in Hayward. Judy was survived by her parents and her younger brother John Martin.

Ken Bell was murdered Sept. 26, 1979 while working as a cabbie in Alaska. He had turned 23 on March 17 of that same year. Between 1976 and 1979 he traveled throughout Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, and had been to and lived in Alaska 2 times. He has twin nephews (18 years old) that he never met (one is named after him) though they are both so much like him. His namesake is the artist and Connor (who shares his middle name) is the musician (percussion and guitar). My brother was my life and he taught me how to look at this world and see the greatness of it all. He was a peaceful, loving, and caring man and this world lost one of the good ones when he died. ", "Charles (Dana) De Marco, Tennyson High School, Class of 1968, passed away in 2001 after a difficult life. He spent most of his adult years struggling with substance abuse. Anyone who remembers him as a teenager will remember an incredibly charming, personable young man who laughed readily and loved going to the Weekes Park Drop-Ins wearing Bates Floaters and Jade East. Unfortunately, the turbulent times of the late sixties seemed to pull him under and he was never able to get his footing during his adult life. I do remember in learning of his passing about his gay life was his sister making a statement that Roger said if he was to marry a woman it would be Barbara Johnson (Paddock). How flattered was I? Roger and I bowled together as young adults, before high school even and formed a friendship and always loved him and admired him as a very caring and sweet person. I have his picture on my wall at work of my favorite people along of course with my intimate family. I have to say Roger was a very good bowler and we did compete even tho friends. David Reiter was born Feb. 1, 1955 and left us just a few short weeks after his 46th birthday, Feb. 25, 2001. Dave fought a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) of which there is not a cure. He was diagnosed with the disease when he was about 38. Dave is survived by his wife Pam, son Sean, daughter Heather, parents Vaughn and Frances, brother Dennis (THS 69), and sister Judy (THS 75). I literally grew up living next door to Dave, we never lost touch. He was always fun to be around, very laid back with a great sense of humor. Dave ran cross country at THS and Chabot College. Graduated from Chabot in 75 then moved to San Luis Obispo and attended Cal Poly. Relocated to the San Diego area and began a 'restoration' business, eventually living in Alpine, CA.

DARRELL BARKER

Darrell Barker graduated in 1967 and began training as an aircraft mechanic. He later went into construction. He died tragically in 1975 in a housefire in Turlock, CA. He is survived by his brother Steve (THS Class of 66) now living in Gig Harbor,WA, sisters Maureen (THS Class of 69) now living in Eugene, OR , and Kimberly (Moreau High School class of 74) now living in Vancouver, WA. Darrell was preceded in death by his mother Pat in 1963, step-mother Dot in 1969, and his father Merrill in 1970.

I was sadden to read about Darrell this morning! Regardless of how old I become, it is still very difficult for me to absorb news such as this regarding someone that knew and was part of my life! Please accept my belated and sincere condolences. 26 years old is far too young!

Darrel was a good guy. I can tell you, as kids, we played together a great deal. Darrell and I had perfect views of the Bidwell baseball fields since we both lived next to the school. So, my memories are mostly about converging at Bidwell to play baseball. I believe I still have some very old Little league team photos of Darrel and I on the same teams, Big John’s Pizza is the one that comes to mind but I believe there were actually several. I remember Darrell as the teams Catcher.

I can also remember the one and only fight Darrell and I had as kids. I can tell you that I was sad about that, even then, because we had grown up together, form elementary through High School. The good thing was our anger was short lived (that was wonderful because my thumb was jammed so bad I wanted to cry). In the end, our friendship recovered quickly and continued through HS! He was the biggest influence and inspiration on all of us, especially when it came to playing music. He was also one of the zaniest and funniest people I've ever known. Whenever he and Jeff Haddock would get together, it would become a literal laugh fest. Terry had many ups and downs in his life. He drove big rig tractor-trailers for over twenty years. He was married three times and fathered five great kids. Unfortunately, his first two marriages ended in nasty divorces. I believe it was back in 1998 when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. They removed one lung but he was still ailing. It was then discovered that he had incurable degenerative heart disease and was given six months to live. Well good old Ter proved them wrong and lasted two more years. He died in 2000. We attended Ken Elliott's 50th birthday party and Terry was singing and blowing the sax with one lung and a bad heart....amazing. He is still greatly missed by all......but especially by the previous people I mentioned. ", "TERRY KEITH MAHONEY, Tennyson High School graduate class of 1974, June 24, 1956 - February 15, 2006 Terry finally succumbed to advanced cancer after a valiant battle. He is survived by his loving immediate family: his mother, Sheila; sisters Noreen, Megan, and Shannon; and brothers Dallon and Shane. He has also left his caring brothers-in-law, Greg and John, and his nephews, John and Brian, as well as the good, kind friends he loved, especially Jack Weber and the folks at the Hayward Fellowship. We will all miss very keenly Terry's thoughtfulness, strength, perseverance, kind deeds, generosity, gentle humor, bright mind, and many other fine qualities. He is an inspiration and a source of pride for us through the difficult obstacles he overcame in his life. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Terry was two years old when he came to Hayward, where he spent the rest of his forty-nine years. He was a person of many abilities, and he learned quickly and thoroughly about anything he wanted to master, including computers, his favorite hobby. KENNETH E. (KEN) BROWN 48 years young of San Leandro, CA died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in Hayward after a short illness. Ken was born in Oakland and grew up in Hayward. Went to local schools. Graduating from Tennyson High School in 1976 and Chabot College with a degree in Administrative Justice. He was employed by J.C. Penney's for over 30 years as a receiving supervisor and also worked part-time with ANG newspapers. Ken went to Holy Cross Episcopal Church with his wife, Ferol-Jeanne. He enjoyed all sports and at one time was the coach of the J.C. Penney's softball team. Over the years he has played basketball and golf. He also enjoyed movies, reading and his computer. He leaves behind his loving wife, Ferol-Jeanne Hooper Brown, his two feline children, Tassy and Brandy and his mother-in-law, Joyce Hooper of Hayward. He also leaves behind two little nephews that he adored, Matthew and Kenny (his name sake) and their mother, sister-in-law, Stella Brown of Sacramento. Also his sister, Jeanne Franks; her husband, Darrell and nephews, Christopher and Jimmy of Oakley. He also leaves behind his father, Lou Brown and grandmother, Velma Brown of Montana. His mother, Charlotte and brother, Jon have preceded him into God's arms. He also leaves his long time close friends, Gary and Katy Jefferson, Scott Chidester and Terry and Karen Sterns. A service of celebration will be held March 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Heyer and Center Street in Castro Valley, CA. Janet Elaine Garcia Trujillo was born October 26, 1943 and passed away September 14, 2000 of stomach cancer. She had 2 daughters, Theresa Ann Salazar and Tina Marie Salazar. Janet had a son, Kenneth Trujillo, Jr. When she became ill she was working for Albertson’s Bakery in Castro Valley as a cake decorator and in the Deli Department. She enjoyed her work.

Denise Cornish Furlough, Tennyson High School, Class of 1976, passed away April 25, 2007, just two days after being diagnosed with colon cancer. She was 48. Denise and her husband Richard Furlough were married 24 years; also survived by her beloved son Frank Anderson. After living in Antioch and Knightsen for many years, she and her husband moved to Klamath Falls Oregon a couple years ago. She was a former employee of Ross Stores, Safeway Inc. and North American Title in the Bay Area. She was much loved by her family, grandmother Lorene Barker, mother and stepfather Doris and Ron Savage, sisters Karen Green and Tonya Savage, and brother Ronald Savage; predeceased by her father Jerry Cornish, brother Walter Cornish and sister Renee Lopez. Her aunts and uncles are all THS Lancers -- Loretta Barker Langston '66, Shirley Barker Gillespie '67, Tommy Barker '68 and Randy Barker '77. She was a wonderful auntie to her nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Terry is survived by her husband Tom, mother Shirley, sister Julie, brothers David and Jeff Murguia THS81, sister in laws Delores Murguia, Ellen Baier, brother in law Jack Bair and the Keith Marion Family. Nieces Jen, Jes, Jas and nephew Brett and many loving friends and the love of her life, her cat Paulie who is 13 years. Terry was lead cook for Head Start Program in Santa Clara County and an active Union member. On the weekends she worked at the race track the Santa Clara Fairgrounds. She enjoyed her flower and plant garden and doing crafts. Terry always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She was so caring and giving of others. JOHN HENRY MAYBERRY JR.

", "John Henry Mayberry Jr., a 1977 graduate of Tennyson High School, died Wednesday Aug. 19,1998, in Discovery Bay. He was 39. Mr. Mayberry was born in Castro Valley. A 21-year member, of the automotive industry and Machinists Union Local 1546, he workedat the Signer Buick-Cadillac dealership in Newark and Fremont for 14 years, then at Herrera GMC in Pleasanton. He enjoyed sporting activities in the community, boating, camping, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his son Lance. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Debra Lynn Mayberry; son Lance Branden Mayberry of Discovery Bay; parents John A. Sr, and Shirley J. Mayberry of Hayward; sister Robin Vincent of Reno, Nev.; and grandparents Victor and Roxie Moody. Allen Dean Joyner,a former longtime resident of Hayward died Wednesday, Jan.20,1999. He was 39. Mr Joyner, a resident of Manteca,graduated from Tennyson High School. He worked for Alhambra Water Co.for 15 years as an installer. He belonged to Teamsters Union Local 70. He is survived by his companion, Patricia Ramos of Manteca, three sons, Jacob Ernest Joyner, Joshua Lewis Joyner and Justin Allen Joyner, all of Manteca. Two sisters, Evelyn of Idaho and Sandra of California;one brother Ernest Joyner of Utah; and his parents ,Henry and Julia Joyner of Utah. Family members said she graduated from Tennyson High School in 1977 and was a talented artist who enjoyed the outdoors, horses,pets,and spend time with her three sons. She is survived by her husband of one year, Darrell Craig of Cheyenne, Wyo,; parents Marlyn Kautz and John A. Kautz, both of Castro Valley; sons, Gregory Everitt, Justin Everitt and Thomas Everitt, all of Hayward; sisters, Tina Salaiz of San Lorenzo and Kim Madden of Vacaville; and brother Greg Kautz of Fremont.
